APC Criticizes Devaluation of Naira

All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized devaluation of naira and described the development as not healthy for Nigeria’s economy.
The National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday in Abuja told newsmen that the devaluation of currency had its implications on the people and the economy.
“When the currency is devalued, it is the worst thing that can happen to any nation.
“All it means for a country like ours, which is import dependent, is that more naira will be needed to buy raw materials and machines.
“It also means that very soon, cost of living will go up,’’ Mohammed said.
Mohammed said that the party had always warned government about the implication of its economic policies.
He said that the party warned government that the cost of producing oil in Nigeria was the highest and raised alarm on organised theft of crude oil.
“We went further to advise the government to diversify our economy.
“We equally advised government to spend more of our resources in finding new reserve.
“We gave example that while Angola and Brazil have reinvested in new deposit to about 40 per cent, Nigeria had only invested about two per cent. These are all the issues that we raised,” he said.

EFCC Arrests 77-year-old Woman & Accomplice Over Alleged N65 Million Land Fraud

An Ikeja High Court on Wednesday remanded a septuagenarian, Mulikat Shonekan, in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N65 million land fraud.
The 77-year-old woman, who was assisted physically into the dock for her arraignment, is to remain in custody pending the perfection of the N5 million bail granted to her by the court.
Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye, the trial judge, also remanded her alleged accomplice, Martins Ogiogwa, 42; in Kirikiri Medium Prison, pending the perfection of his N10 million bail.
The defendants were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside Mujekanm Petroleum Nigeria Company Ltd. Shonekan lives at No. 9, Shonekan Close, Obantoko, Abeokuta while Ogiogwa gave his address as Block 26, Flat 8, LSPDC Estate, Ebute Meta, Lagos.
They are facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretences, stealing and issuance of dud cheques.
The EFCC counsel, Anslem Ozioko, said the defendants conspired to commit the offences between September 2008 and July 2011.
Ozioko said that they obtained N65 million from Danladi Verheijen, the Director of Kuta Stones Ltd, under the pretext of selling him 90 acres of land at Kemta Ososun Village, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to him, after obtaining the money, the defendants failed to sell the property to the complainant and thereafter sold it to a third party.
Ozioko said that Shonekan also issued two GT Bank cheques in the sum of N5 million each, payable to Kuta Stones Ltd.
He said the cheques were dishonoured and returned unpaid due to insufficiency of funds in the account of the defendant.
According to him, their offences contravene Sections 8(a) and 1(3) of Advance Fee Fraud and other related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006.
Ozioko said the offences also contravened Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap C17, Vol 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
The prosecutor said that they also violated Section 1(1) of Dishonoured Cheque (Offences) Act, Cap D11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence of obtaining money by false pretences attracts a maximum of seven years imprisonment.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following their arraignment, their counsel, Bamidele Ogundele and Austin Akpomreta, appealed to the court that they should be granted bail on liberal terms.
In her ruling, Ipaye granted Shonekan N5 million bail, with two sureties in like sum.
She also granted Ogiogwa bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties.
The judge said the sureties must be resident in Lagos State while one of them must be a blood relative.
According to her, all the sureties must produce evidence of payment of three years tax to the Lagos State Government.
Ipaye also ordered Ogiogwa to deposit his traveling documents in the custody of the Chief Registrar of the Lagos State High Court.
NAN reports that the matter was adjourned till Jan.23, 2015 for trial.

Oritsefemi talks being a Role Model for Ajegunle Youth, Getting Married Soon + His Babies’ Mothers

Oritsefemi is one inspirational fellow. After growing up in the slums of Ajegunle, he has risen to success and fame through his music, especially thanks to breakout hit Double Wahala.
In a recent interview with Vanguard, the singer opens up about his inspirational story and his love life. Here are some excerpts.
On Life Before The Success
“I was struggling. I was on the streets, hustling to make ends meet. I actually stayed away from my family. I couldn’t depend on my dad, because he had his own challenges as a polygamist.
That was why at 14 years (old), I went into the street to hustle. I hawked in the street. My dad was an engineer, and he taught me how to dismantle and repair boat engines. I learnt all that.
Then, I had my own boat that I was using to transport passengers from Ajegunle to Lagos Island. I also worked as a bus conductor. Growing in Ajegunle, you have to hustle, otherwise your contemporaries would snatch your girlfriend from you.
Ajegunle residents believe in hustling. That time, nobody knew me, so, why would I go into hiding. But honestly, I didn’t engage in any dirty or illegal business. I believe in my music and that’s what is seeing me through today.”
Being an Inspiration
“I actually grew up in Tolu which is one of the worse areas to live in Ajegunle. I experienced all types of miserable lifestyles, but I survived them all. Today, I am a role model to a lot of the Ajegunle youths. I used to counsel them that if I could make it, they too, can make it.”
On Getting Married Soon + His Teen Relationships
“Yes, I have two beautiful daughters who are between ten and nine years. I have a family and I’m from a polygamous home. I have a responsibility as a father.”

My two daughters are from different mothers and I am not marrying any of them.”
“It’s a long story. Back in time, as a street boy, growing up in the ghetto city of Ajegunle, I had some childhood girlfriends who got pregnant.
Then, I had no means of livelihood to sustain them. But I ensured that I took care of my kids right from when they were born. Unfortunately, I couldn’t take care of their mothers because of my financial status then. But now, that God has elevated me, I am planning to take my children abroad.”
